What does a Jr
Vol do? The primary job of all who work at the Wetlands Institute is to
fulfill our mission: to promote appreciation and understanding of the role that
wetlands and coastal ecosystems play in the survival of life on this planet. There
are many tasks to be done in order to accomplish this mission. Some are mundane
and others are more exciting. We need help with everything from animal care and
cleaning, to addressing the public, answering phones and office work, to assisting
teachers with summer nature classes. We run special events that would not be possible
without help from volunteers and will work with your skills and interests to find
opportunitites that are a good fit for you and the Institute. What
do I get from being a Jr Vol? A Jr Vol has the opportunity to gain experience
and skills through the variety of work available at the WI. By making a commitment
and living up to the excellence that is a part of all that is done at the WI,
each Jr Vol can feel a pride and confidence in the knowledge that s/he is contributing
to the preservation of wetlands and coastal ecosystems. A Jr Vol can also fulfill
requirements for community service as well as gain valuable experience that can
be added to their college application.
What do I do to become a Jr Vol?
We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible students who work well with others.
An applicant to the Jr Vol program is expected to have the maturity and focus
to accomplish the task assigned. S/he must also be willing to accept direction
and the constructive criticism that goes with being in a learning position. A
Jr Vol should also be willing to increase their knowledge so that they can assume
greater responsibilities at the WI. Is this experience right for you?
If the above information describes and interests you, get ready to join a
wonderful staff and meet more people like yourself. Apply to be a Jr. Volunteer
